Artificial Intelligence Content Writing: What Does It Do?

In today’s digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more commonplace. People are using artificial intelligence to automate simple tasks such as sorting their emails and booking their flights. But what about artificial intelligence content writing?

Artificial Intelligence Content Writing has the ability to help businesses with various types of content creation including articles, blog posts, web pages and social media posts. In this post, we will explore how artificial intelligence can be used for content creation and see if it will put writers out of a job!

What is artificial intelligence content writing?

To start, let’s take a look at what exactly AI content writing assistants are. I’ll use the one that I use as an example – it is called Jasper (formerly Conversion.ai) and for me, it is best available currently.

An AI writing assistant can create articles, blog posts, web pages and social media posts. It can be used to create marketing materials, product descriptions or high-quality content for your business that you would have otherwise had to do yourself or pay someone else to create.

Some artificial intelligence writing assistants are even capable of creating the full text (or at least part of it) of an article or blog post.  Jasper didn’t write this entire article but he could have if I had given him the right input – but I still like to do some of the writing myself!

What can artificial intelligence content writing do for you?

AI assistants are good at simplifying the process by doing some of the work for you, which allows writers to focus on higher-level tasks and goals that will bring more value to their business. AI is also capable of delivering quality pieces with little to no errors, unlike humans.

Artificial intelligence content writing is a relatively new service so the monthly subscription cost of it can vary from company to company and will depend on how much work you need to be done (articles vs blog posts) and what artificial intelligence assistant software they offer.

I’m on the Boss Plan with Jasper that allows me unlimited content creation and access to all of their features including their new Recipes.

AI can create high-quality articles and blog posts that could otherwise be too overwhelming or time-consuming to write on your own – artificial intelligence helps you focus your energy on tasks that will bring more value to your business and lets AI do all of the busy work.

For content marketers, this can mean helping with the crucial content they need for their clients and the content strategy they have created.  For bloggers, it can mean a helping hand with their regular blog posts.

What is Natural Language Generation (NLG)

Content generation AI software uses something called Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Generation (NLG). These are artificial intelligence programs that are capable of understanding human language and writing responses.

One type of Artificial Intelligence–natural language processing (NLP)–produces text-based on voice input. Something like Google’s Voice Input in Docs allows you to speak to the software and have the words appear in the document.

An improved form of NLG, this process entails transforming the structured data from NLP into narrative stories without any human involvement.

Of course ‘narrative’ can be a little off in this context – NLG creates content in a unique and logical order. It can even create fiction. But essentially, it is using fact-driven content to create the content, as opposed to the truly creative process of the human brain.

The result is great content but there’s still the need for a human touch to finish it.

What doesn’t artificial intelligence content writing do for you?

AI can help with your business’ content creation, but it’s not a magical tool that will write these pieces on its own. You still need to be able to formulate or provide the ideas and concepts of what you want everything to say.

There are artificial intelligence assistants out there that can help with some of the content writing work, but they are not complete replacements for human writers.  There is also article generator software that essentially spins existing content but I’m not sure how well these work as I haven’t tried them.

Artificial intelligence content writing software cannot create original ideas or concepts. It can only generate text based on the information that is given to it, which means all artificial intelligence assisted writers are still accountable for their work.

Hence the reason that we call them writing assistants – they are there to help with the workload but not to do everything for you. Maybe in the future, that might be different but we aren’t there yet!

Will it put us out of a job?

As with all AI, there’s the fear that it will put humans out of a job. As a content writer using Jarvis to help create a range of content, I can definitely answer that while it might in quite a few years time, it won’t yet.

At the moment, without the human component, there would be no content. You, as the content writer, need to decide the keywords, research the content and you need to help organise the AI content writing assistant.

Yes, it can help with the writing of the content. But you still need to check the accuracy, spelling and grammar and make sure all the important points are covered.

So don’t fear the robots are taking over – simply view them as a helpful assistant to make your workload a little lighter!
